Actively Promoting Sustainable Strategies, M&G is Once Again Invited to Attend Consumer Expo 2023

The 3rd China International Consumer Goods Fair (CICGF) was held in Haikou, Hainan on April 11-15, 2023 under the theme "Sharing Opportunities, Creating a Better Life". As the only representative of the domestic stationery industry, M&G was selected as a sustainable consumption casestudy in the Global Sustainable Consumption Initiative Progress Report.



Chen Zidan, Chief Sustainability Officer of M&G, was invited to attend the forum again to share the results and highlights of M&G's sustainability strategy in the year since its launch.


As the first of the four national exhibitions to be held offline this year, this year's Consumption Expo creates a domestic and international dual-cycle platform for displaying and trading global consumer goods, creating opportunities for global enterprises toparticipate in the Chinese market and for Chinese enterprises to spread their reach globally. One of the highlights of the Fair, theThird Sustainable Consumption Summit Forum, with the theme of"Innovative Consumption Scenarios and Releasing Consumption Potential", has set off a wave of discussions on sustainable consumption development.



As a socially responsible enterprise, M&G Stationery has continuedto pay attention to sustainability-related topics in recent years,and has become the first listed company in China's stationery industry to publish an ESG report, committing itself to becoming an environmentally and socially friendly enterprise and writing asustainable business future.



In 2022, M&G joined the Global Sustainable Consumption Initiative(GSCI) as a new member at the Consumer Expo, and shared its visionand practice of sustainable consumption and production; in 2023, M&G, as the only representative of the stationery industry in China, was selected as an exemplary case study of sustainable consumption in the GSCI Progress Report. Chen Zidan, M&G's chief sustainability officer, was again invited to the conference to share the results and highlights of M&G's sustainability strategy in the year since its launch.


Actively Promoting and Leading the Industry in Sustainable Development Strategies


Under the global trend of promoting sustainable development, sustainable consumption has gradually become a powerful driving force for China's consumer market and new economic development as consumer awareness of sustainability  practices continues to rise.


As the key official event of the Global Consumption Forum of this year'sConsumer Expo, the 3rd Sustainable Consumption Summit Forum integrates resources from the government, professional organizations,international organizations, experts, scholars and the media todiscuss new trends, policies and practices of environmentally sustainable consumption in China, and is committed to becoming animportant player in the development of sustainable consumption inChina and globally.




The forum released the Global Sustainable Consumption Initiative Progress Report, and as the only representative of the domestic stationery industry, M&G’s sustainable consumption case study was selected for inclusion in the report. Chen Zidan, Chief Sustainability Officer of M&G, was once again invited to attend the forum to participate in the panel discussion on "Embracing a Better Life: Sustainable Consumption Fuels New Consumption".

In 2022, M&G released its Environmental, Social and GovernanceReport, which comprehensively demonstrated its achievements insustainable development practices. With the vision of "writing a sustainable business future.", M&G will focus on the four pillars of "sustainable products, Response to climate change,sustainable supply chains, and empowering employees and communities",actively promote the implementation of sustainable strategies to lead the industry's sustainable development, as well as establish itselfas an industrial leader in sustainable development.


In 2022, adhering to its high standards for product quality, M&G will actively explore the integration of sustainable development into its products, bringing consumers a variety of eco-friendly productssuch as the first line of carbon-neutral stationery and endangered animal marine series. As its response to climate change, M&G hascontinued to explore eco-friendly and lower-carbon production and operation methods, recycling and reusing 7,200 tons of waste plastics and generating more than 8.8 million kwh of electricity from photovoltaics annually. Its annual photovoltaic power generationexceeds 8.8 million kilowatt-hours.



In addition, M&G has created the supplier ESG assessment system,continuing to optimize assessment and improvement actions,collaborating with suppliers to realize a common vision of sustainable development progress. M&G also actively and continuously seeks to empower employees and communities in literacy education, environmental protection, humanitarian care and otherpublic welfare projects......

Using sustainable products asits driving force, M&G advocates the practice of sustainability amongst young consumers by starting from the small things in life,creating a better future together. Under the guidance of its sustainable development strategy, M&G continues to develop newand innovating sustainable products with higher standards. In accordance with its history of high product quality, M&G actively integrates sustainability practices into its products, bringing consumers more eco-friendly product choices.



Through eco-friendly design, M&G continues to improve its product versatility, expand refill capacity, and add refillable designs to extend product life. It also actively explores renewable,biodegradable and safer and healthier raw materials, and increases the use of environmentally certified raw materials in its productsand packaging.


Earlier this year, M&G announced the launch of its first carbon-neutral stationery series in collaboration with Meituan's Lush Mountain Plan. This plan achieves carbon neutrality throughout the entire lifecycle, from raw material acquisition, production andprocessing, transportation and distribution, to use and disposal.Each carbon neutral pen is made of recycled plastic from recycledfood containers, which reduces carbon emissions by 2.3g of plastic.In accordance with ISO 14067 and PAS 2050 standards, this series of pens have been carbon footprinted and offset by carbon accounting organizations, and have been awarded a Carbon Neutral Certificate.This is a new initiative by M&G in the field of sustainable products to push the industry towards a more sustainable future.



In addition, M&G takes the initiative to develop public awareness of sustainability and public welfare to consumers with the help of product packaging, such as through its "Museum - Endangered Animals" marine stationery series, which promotes consciousness for biodiversity, and the "Autism Children with M&G "series of public welfare products, incorporating creative drawings by autistic children into the product design and packaging. The"Autism Children with M&G " series of public welfare products incorporates the creative drawings of children with autisminto product design and packaging, raising public attention to the special needs of people living with autism. ......



In recent years, M&G's achievements in the field of sustainability have been highly evident, garnering numerous awards for itself. As the only representative of the domestic stationery industry at APEC,M&G was selected as one of the industry case studies forinclusion in the "Sustainable China Industry Development Initiative" 2022, and has been awarded the Environmental and Ecological Contribution Award in the "2022 CBN-China Corporate Social Responsibility Ranking", among other awards.
